Scholarship Stories

"Life for me and my family hasn't always been easy, but since coming to Brandeis thrings have really moved in a positive direction. Brandeis made it possible for me to continue my education and pursue my dreams of using medicine to relieve suffering around the world. " – Greg Goodman, Class of 2009

"What makes Brandeis a great institution is that we accept students without regard to their financial situations. We get superior students, we provide them scholarships, and they enjoy a truly unique education. Our missions is not only to create educated people, but also to create citizens of the world." – President Jehuda Reinharz, PhD '72 (Brandeis scholarship recipient)

"Because of the generous support of donors, I have been able to concentrate on my academics and participate in a variety of activities without having to fret over how my education is financed. I am president of the Brandeis Pre-Health Society, work as en emergency medical technician for the Brandeis Emergency Medical Corps, serve as the undergraduate representative for the Biology Department, and am a member of the Student Global AIDS campaign. I also volunteer regularly at a women's shelter. ... After graduation and taking time off to teach and pursue philanthropic work, I hope to attend medical school to study surgery or emergency medicine." – Daniel Treacy, Class of 2009

"As a political refugee of the African nation of Togo, I am truly passionate about global studies. Over the past few years, I have studied and worked at the Small Arms Survey in Geneva, Switzerland, researching a project on the effects of small arms on children and writing a briefing paper on the disarmament, demobilization, and reinsertion program in the African nation of Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast). I also discovered a new passion for young children as a student teacher at the Lemberg Children’s Center. Through my efforts in Switzerland and on campus, Brandeis has allowed me to make an impact – both globally and locally – while still a student. It has been a truly rewarding experience, and I will always be grateful for the generous friends and scholarship support that have made it all possible." – Dopé Teko ’08, Class of 2008
