Bridges to Prosperity envisions a world where poverty caused by rural isolation no longer exists. Since 2001, Bridges to Prosperity has built nearly 100 bridges in more than 14 countries, providing an estimated half a million people with improved access to health care, education and economic opportunities.
The Jucuapa pedestrian bridge will provide life saving access for the people of three nearby villages. Community children often stop going to school after the fifth grade because getting to the nearby secondary school is a life-threatening journey. Each year, dozens of children and elderly people die from preventative illnesses because they simply cannot reach the local health clinic. The subsistence farmers of this valley can not get their crops to market, leaving already struggling families mired in poverty and want.
