Help Us Bring Innovative Cinema to Israel's Periphery this May
The Student Film Bus: Fulfilling An Important Social Mission
This year is no different. The Student Film Bus – the Festival’s major project this year – will help us make our own unique contribution to social justice in Israel. Most of the films we students make involve contemporary social, political and minority issues in the country. Yet most cinemas in Israel screen mostly blockbuster movies, thereby depriving audiences of the cultural richness and diversity that can be found in films such as ours.
The Student Film Bus will remedy this by making young and innovative “social cinema” accessible to the people who can relate to and benefit from it the most. The films we screen will be chosen to best suit the interests of residents at each destination, among them Jews and Arabs, native Israelis and new immigrants from Ethiopia and the former Soviet Union, the young and the elderly.
Moreover, we intend to leave our screen and projection equipment in Dimona, the final destination of our journey, thereby creating a brand new screening venue for the residents of one of Israel’s poorest and most isolated towns.
