Our goal by the end of 2008 is to raise $82,000 to purchase a new refrigerated truck. Able to hold 7,000 pounds of food, this new truck will allow us to rescue and supply food to thousands more people in need. The idea of rescuing food is powerful in its simplicity: Every day in Israel, hundreds of tons of surplus food is destroyed; this at a time when 20% of the country’s population is living below the poverty line and not getting enough to eat. As Israel’s Food-Rescue Network, Table to Table tackles this paradox by rescuing surplus food from agriculture, industry, and hundreds of restaurants, bakeries, caterers, and banquet halls. Every month, Table to Table’s trucks collect over 528,000 pounds of produce and dairy products and 50,000 prepared meals redistributing the food without charge to over 120 non-profit organizations across Israel.

Table to Table is one of Israel’s leading non-profit organizations. Since its founding in 2003, Table to Table has grown from a one-person operation to an organization whose 50 employees and 50,000 volunteers provide food to over 13,000 people every day. We run some of Israel’s largest volunteer-powered projects, including a “night-time food rescue” program, and a fruit-picking initiative named Project Leket. More details are available at our bilingual website at www.tabletotable.org.il/english.

Table to Table’s “food-rescue fleet” of 7 trucks, ranging in size from one to fifteen tons, service an area of thousands of square miles. Table to Table, is apolitical and unaffiliated, providing all the food it rescues free of charge to over 120 organizations that have shown a genuine need for assistance, and an effective means of food distribution.
