University of the People is in the process of seeking tax exemption under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and expects that the IRS will grant tax exempt status retroactively to UoPeople’s date of incorporation, (January 2009). However, you should be aware that if the IRS does not grant the exemption, contributions will not be eligible for charitable deductions. You should retain this acknowledgement for 2010 income tax purposes.
