Questions & Answers

Question:

What are the aims of Latet?

Answer:

Latet has 3 central goals:

1. Providing assistance to populations in crisis, in Israel and around the world.

2. Raising social awareness, and instilling values of mutual responsibility, volunteering, and giving.

3. Actions for policy change, with the goal of minimizing poverty levels and social gaps. We work toward realizing these goals by mobilizing Israeli civilians to take part in humanitarian activities.

Question:

Why is the organization involved in food distribution?

Answer:

Israeli society has long found itself in crisis, with tens of thousands of families forced to deal with one of the most striking signs of poverty – the problem of lack of food security, meaning the inability to provide basic minimal nutrition necessary for a balanced and healthy life to families and children. Latet’s decision to assist families in serious crisis and alleviate their burden as much as possible arises from a belief in our civil, humanitarian, and ethical responsibility to hold out our hand to weaker members of society. Latet works concurrently to apply pressure on the state to take responsibility for this situation. However, the phenomenon of poverty is so deep and widespread in Israeli society that we have no choice but to invest in physical aid (food) and long-term infrastructure as well.
