Thank You and Happy New Year!

Thank you!

Throughout November and December people came together to share their love and show their compassion by supporting the animals during the A Second Chance campaign.

Making things even more amazing, and inspired by the remarkable generosity of animal lovers, the Eldon & Anne Foote Fund at the Edmonton Community Foundation, the family of Wayne and his beloved rescue fur baby Leika, Mrs. Gisela Waibel, and the Eaglecom Foundation together matched $86,000 of donations to A Second Chance!

Your kindness brought hundreds of animals home for the holidays. Your generosity made sure that animals were rescued from horrifying situations of cruelty and neglect.

Archer was found with a metal collar embedded in his neck.

BREAKING NEWS: BC SPCA seizes 29 dogs and puppies from Squamish breeder

The BC SPCA has seized 29 dogs and puppies from a Squamish breeder during a warrant executed on Nov. 30.

The seized animals - 18 adult dogs and 11 puppies – include Old English sheepdogs, Coton de Tulear, bearded collies and a Tibetan terrier. The dogs were badly matted and suffering from ear infections, overgrown nails, skin infections and severe dental disease. The dogs, some of whom may be pregnant, are currently in SPCA care and are receiving ongoing veterinary treatment.

“This is yet another example of why regulations for dog (and cat) breeders are needed in this province,” said Marcie Moriarty, chief prevention and enforcement officer. “We have been working with the B.C. government on developing laws that we hope will help avoid these types of cases in the future.”

Send your love to the animals and tell us who inspired you!

Good luck BC SPCA - thanks for all your hard work for the animals. I have only donated $400 because I live in Calgary now and donate to the Calgary Humane Society. I also continue to donate to the BC SPCA - Vancouver Hospital Trust each year.

BC SPCA

Last year you help us care for and assist 42,244 animals in distress and need across BC. The BC SPCA is the only animal welfare organization in BC that has the authority to enforce laws relating to animal cruelty, and to recommend criminal charges. Supporter generosity stops immediate animal suffering and distress, and helps us work to address the root causes of animal distress thus eliminating future suffering and cruelty. Read more...

Will my donation be managed responsibly?

Answer:

The BC SPCA is proud to be among the elite group of Canadian organizations to be accredited by Imagine Canada, the national umbrella for charities and nonprofits.

The BC SPCA has received accreditation status through the Imagine Canada Standards Program, a Canada-wide set of shared standards for charities and nonprofits designed to demonstrate excellence in five fundamental areas: financial accountability and transparency; board governance; fundraising; staff management and volunteer involvement.

Only 45 charitable organizations hold Imagine Canada accreditation status and the BC SPCA is the first Canadian humane society to become accredited.

You can be confident that your BC SPCA donation is being used efficiently and effectively. Read more about our governance and accountability here.
