How would you feel if you lost your childhood and your family all at once?

Esther Wagner was 15 years old when the Russians entered her small village in Poland. That day marked the end of her childhood. The next few years were filled with endless horrors - she had to say goodbye to her mother while they were on a train headed to a death camp. Seconds later Esther jumped out of the train window. The horrors that she experienced during the Holocaust haunted her for her entire life. Her whole family was murdered - mother, father, sister and brothers. By the end of the war she was completely alone.

Imagine a 15 year old child completely alone.

Today Esther (91 yrs old) lives in Jerusalem and has more than 60 great-grandchildren.

Who will tell them her story?

Each day survivors are dying and their stories are dying with them. Time is running out.

Memories are disappearing and we must save the past from fading away. A testimony that is not recorded TODAY might not be available next year or even next month.

Recording a testimony costs Yad Vashem $1,500.* Consider sponsoring one testimony (or part of one) this year.

Yad Vashem: World Holocaust Remembrance Center, Jerusalem

"And to them will I give in my house and within my walls a memorial and a name (a "yad vashem")... that shall not be cut off."
(Isaiah, chapter 56, verse 5)

As the Jewish people’s living memorial to the Holocaust, Yad Vashem safeguards the memory of the past and imparts its meaning for future generations. Established in 1953, as the world center for documentation, research, education and commemoration of the Holocaust, Yad Vashem is today a dynamic and vital place of intergenerational and international encounter.

For over half a century, Yad Vashem has been committed to four pillars of remembrance:

  • Commemoration
  • Documentation
  • Research
  • Education
